Julie Hernandez is presently the Director of Community Relations on Long Island for the Liberty Management Group. Liberty owns and operates; The Holliswood Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital in Queens, as well as Arms Acres and Conifer Park, (both inpatient substance abuse rehabs).
Julie is also the Co-Owner of Perspectives Counseling Service in Blue Point, Long Island.
Julie currently serves on the boards of the EAPA Association of Long Island, Suffolk Community College chemical dependency program, Unsung Heroes helping heroes and is President of the Board of New Perspectives. In addition, Julie co founded and served as the first President of the Adlerian Society of Puerto Rico.
She has been in the field of addictions and trauma work for the past 25 years. She began counseling Viet Nam vets in 1977 and went on to run the largest support group in NY State for the families of the Gulf War soldiers. She appeared on MSNBC to help the families of flight 800 as she lost her own father in a commercial airline crash as a child. Julie has been honored due to her role as a critical stress debrief/grief counselor at the World Trade Center Disaster, where most of her time was spent working with the families of the victims, firemen, policeman and others. Her final job was to hand out the urns for Mayor Giuliani at Pier 94. Julie also did grief counseling at the site of the Bel Harbor plane crash memorial service. She has been recognized by the Barnum and Bailey Circus, in the Circle of Hero’s for her life long career and volunteer work and by Suffolk County.
Julie presents on a variety of topics throughout New York State and was a featured guest on the Montell Williams show for her expertise on addictions. She is also a trained interventionist. Julie was the Director of the PINS camps for Suffolk County probation and is certified to teach parenting classes.
Julie co hosted “Spotlight on the Issues” on WLIE for 6 years and has written a number of articles on many topics. She just finished her second screen play. She is currently writing a book about addiction in sports.
